Title: The Local Gan–Gross–Prasad Conjecture
Abstract:
The classical branching problem concerns the restriction of an irreducible representation to a compact subgroup. Gan–Gross–Prasad extended this to a conjecture for classical groups over local fields of characteristic zero. Waldspurger achieved the first breakthrough in the non-Archimedean special orthogonal case for tempered parameters. Since then, diverse methods have led to a full proof for all generic parameters.
In this talk, for the situations with generic parameters, I will present an approach that applies uniformly to both unitary and non-unitary, Archimedean and non-Archimedean cases, including Bessel and Fourier–Jacobi models. This approach is developed based on foundational work by Waldspurger, Mœglin–Waldspurger, and Gan–Ichino, it uses the trace formula, endoscopy, multiplicity formulas, and the Theta correspondence. I will also discuss its application to a related conjecture for nongeneric unitary representations, including those of Arthur type.
