Abstract: I will give a brief account of joint work with Cristian Popescu on the minus part of the Equivariant Tamagawa Number Conjecture (ETNC) for Artin motives with abelian coefficients. The ETNC is a vast generalization of the analytic class number formula, subsuming a wide range of conjectures that relate special values of Artin L-functions to fundamental arithmetic invariants such as class groups and regulators in an equivariant framework. If time permits I will explain how Iwasawa theoretic methods can be used to establish the minus part of the conjecture in this setting.
